March 12, 2018

The Eugene Emeralds are excited to announce they are partnering with Wildish and Oregon Medical Group to bring back Sluggo's Home Run Reading Challenge. This program is designed to motivate students to become better readers with the simple equation of Reading = Emeralds Baseball!

The Eugene Emeralds are excited to announce they are partnering with Wildish and Oregon Medical Group to bring back Sluggo's Home Run Reading Challenge. This program is designed to motivate students to become better readers with the simple equation of Reading = Emeralds Baseball!

Last year over 50 schools signed up for this reading challenge. This year, Sluggo and some members of the Emeralds front office will be visiting the schools to get students excited about reading and putting on an interactive performance of "Casey at the Bat." At the end of the assembly, participating teachers will give their students a 10-task reading goal, which students will track with an Emeralds bookmark.
Students who complete their bookmarks receive two free tickets to a Eugene Emeralds baseball game this summer. In addition to the tickets, students will be invited to go down onto the field of PK Park and have a chance to meet some of the 2018 Emeralds players!
"The Reading Challenge is such a great way to get kids to read," said Community Relations Director Anne Culhane. "The program keeps growing each year, and it's amazing to see how many kids complete the program each year. They all have a sense of pride when they come to get games."
The Emeralds will be updating the progress of Sluggo's Home Run Reading Challenge through social media. Be sure to follow the Ems on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. So far this year, over 40 schools have signed up to participate in the Home Run Reading Challenge.
