The Chicago Cubs have promoted catcher Caleb Knight from the Eugene Emeralds (A-Short) to the South Bend Cubs (A-Full) in a roster move finalized on Thursday.

Currently in his second professional season after being signed as an undrafted free agent out of Virginia in 2018, Knight has spent the entire 2019 season with the Emeralds thus far, posting a .253/.362/.354 slash line with a .716 OPS while tallying 2 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs, and 11 RBIs in 32 games played.
Knight has been the go-to catcher for the Emeralds who have spent much of the season carrying as many as four catchers on the active roster.
The former Virginia Cavalier started his pro career in Arizona with the Rookie-level AZL Cubs 1 team before being promoted to Eugene where he played in 44 regular season games while helping guide the Ems to the 2018 Northwest League title, the team's second championship in three seasons.
Knight will join a number of former 2019 Emeralds teammates in South Bend, including Fauris Guerrero, Darius Hill, Brandon Hughes, Nelson Maldonado, Riley McCauley, Zach Mort, Yonathan Perlaza, Casey Ryan, Jake Slaughter, Chase Strumpf, and Carlos Vega. He is tentatively scheduled to make his debut with the South Bend Cubs tonight.
The Eugene Emeralds organization thanks Caleb Knight for his time in Eugene and wishes him the best of luck as he continues to climb through the Chicago Cubs system.
