Everett Wraps Up Homestand with Loss, 7-3

Everett, WA - The AquaSox struggled to close out the rubber match against the Spokane Indians on Kids Day in front of 3,888 fans, 7-3. Seattle Mariners third-round draft pick, Cal Raleigh made his professional debut going two-for-four with two RBI.

Spokane's Julio Pablo Martinez hit a leadoff home run to right field on the second pitch of the game. AquaSox starter Carlos Hernandez would strike out two of the next three batters to close out the first inning, 1-0.
In the bottom of the first inning, Connor Hoover unleashed on the second pitch he saw, logging a double off the scoreboard in right field. Ryan Ramiz followed it up with a perfectly placed bunt along the third baseline, advancing Hoover. Connor Kopach was hit by a pitch on the next at-bat, loading the bases with no outs on the board. Indians starter, Tai Tiedemann retired the next three AquaSox batters, though, and the game remained 1-0 Spokane.
The game-tying run came in the fourth inning when Jansiel Rivera's RBI double brought home Bobby Honeyman, 1-1.
Back-to-back singles by Hoover and Ramiz in the fifth inning would put runners on the corners. Raleigh would step up to the plate and knock in the go-ahead run, 2-1.
Hernandez's outing came to an end after the sixth inning, finishing with four strikeouts. Jamal Wade replaced Hernandez in the game in the top of the seventh and quickly loaded up the bases. He then walked in the second Spokane run, ending his day. Penn Murfee would enter the game and retired the next batter, getting out of the base loaded jam.
Sparked by a Ryne Ogren double in the bottom of the inning, Raleigh collected his second RBI of the day. The former Florida State product singled to left-center field, rewarding the AquaSox with a slim one-run cushion, 3-2.
In the eighth inning, the Indians were able to come from behind scoring three runs off a Francisco Ventura and Austin O'Banion doubles, 5-3.
The Indians would continue the scoring barrage in the top of the ninth by adding two more runs off Murfee, 7-3. The Sox half of the inning would start off with a leadoff Ramiz double, but he would be left stranded at third to end the game, 7-3.
The AquaSox return home for a three-game series against the Vancouver Canadians next Tuesday, July 24 for Bark in the Park presented by Heritage Bank.
