Slow Offensive Night Ends in 7-1 Defeat

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Fayetteville Woodpeckers (31-40) were held to just five hits on Saturday night at Segra Stadium and dropped game five of the series with the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (23-48) 7-1.

Jayson Schroeder (L, 2-1) set down the side in order in the first, but allowed a run in the second on a pair of singles and two wild pitches. Kannapolis made it 5-0 in the third with a pair of bases loaded walks and a two-run single from Luis Miesis. Ronny Garcia took over in the third, got the final out, and surrendered a Bryan Ramos solo home run in the fourth.

Victor Mascai provided the only run of the night in the top of the fifth, leading off the inning with a solo homer off Angel Acevedo (W, 2-4). The Kannapolis starter worked through six, his longest outing of the season, and struck out three en route to the win.

Meiosis improved to 4-for-4 with an RBI single in the sixth off Fabrico Reina that made it a 7-1 contest. Reina pitched the rest of the way, completing five innings out of the bullpen, struck out five, and closed his night with three scoreless frames.

The series concludes on Sunday with first pitch at Segra Stadium scheduled for 2:05 p.m. ET. Fayetteville is scheduled to start RHP Diosmerky Taveras and Kannapolis will counter with RHP Matt Thompson.
