Kinston, NC - The Fayetteville Woodpeckers were held scoreless until the ninth inning on Sunday afternoon, and despite some solid pitching in the early and late stages of the game, dropped the final road game of the regular season to the Down East Wood Ducks 3-1 at Grainger Stadium.

Tyler Guilfoil kept the game scoreless over his start, going 3.2 innings and striking out six before being lifted for Jayson Schroeder in the fourth inning. Schroeder entered with no runners on and needed to record just one out, but ended up walking four and surrendering two runs as Down East jumped ahead for the first time.

The Wood Ducks crossed one more run in the sixth inning on an RBI double from Abi Ortiz. Nolan DeVos continued to pitch the remainder of the game after allowing the run, tossing 4.0 frames and striking out six.

John Garcia drove in the only run of the game in the top of the ninth with an RBI single before Anthony Hoopii-Tuionetoa closed out the game to earn the save.

Sunday’s contest concludes the Woodpeckers road schedule for 2022. The club will return to Segra Stadium on Tuesday for the final six home game of the regular season, playing host to the Lynchburg Hillcats. First pitch on Tuesday night is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
