Charleston, SC - The Fayetteville Woodpeckers (8-14) got another impressive performance from their pitching staff Tuesday night, but a ninth-inning walk-off from the Charleston RiverDogs (14-8) gave them the opening game of the series at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Ballpark by 1-0 final. Michael Berglund’s RBI single with one out in the ninth off of Fayetteville’s Jayson Schroeder (L, 0-2) was all the offense that Charleston needed.

Woodpeckers starting pitcher Carlos Calderon was rock solid on the mound in his third start of the season. He cruised through the first four innings before pitching out of a jam in the fifth to cap off the night. Calderon finished with five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and one walk while fanning six batters.

Calderon was relieved by RHP Deylen Miley, who was coming off of a scoreless start Thursday against Kannapolis. Miley picked up right where he left off, keeping the RiverDogs off the board over three innings while striking out four.

In the bottom of the ninth, Charleston first baseman Bobby Seymour ripped a lead-off double down the left field line. He advanced to third on a flyout to right by Mason Auera. After Schroeder walked Freddvil Chavez and Oneill Manzueta, Bergland stepped to the plate and grounded one past the dive of Woodpeckers second baseman Joey Loperfido to bring home Seymour and end the ballgame.

Both teams will be back in action Wednesday night in Charleston with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 ET. Fayetteville will send (probable) to the mound while the RiverDogs counter with (probable).
