August 31, 2014

Ryan O'Sullivan made a solid start in his final start of the season as he led the Fightin Phils (65-76) to a 4-2 win over the Trenton Thunder (67-74). The Fightins have now won six-straight games and earn their first series win over Trenton this season.

Rob Segedin put the Thunder on the board first as he hit a RBI double off Ryan O'Sullivan to score Gary Bird and give Trenton an early 1-0 lead. The Fightin Phils struck in the top of the 6th inning off Jaron Long as they scored three runs to take a 3-1 lead. Jake Fox hit a one-out RBI double to score Peter Lavin while Zach Collier laced a two-run triple to score Fox and Brock Stassi.

Trenton cut Reading's lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the 6th inning as Mason Williams hit a RBI double off O'Sullivan to score Francisco Arcia. Carlos Alonso hit a RBI single off Long in the top of the 7th inning to extend Reading's lead to 4-2. Ryan O'Sullivan (7-8) earned the win as he allowed two runs off five hits in 5 2/3 innings as he issued four walks with four strikeouts. Matt Hoffman tossed 2/3 of an inning as he recorded two strikeouts with one hit and one walk allowed.

Albert Cartwright stole his 27th base of the season in the top of the 9th inning after hitting a single with two outs. That stolen base bypassed his total from the 2013 season (26). Kyle Simon earned his third save as he closed out the game by pitching the final 2 2/3 innings.

The Fightin Phils finish their season tomorrow afternoon against the Trenton Thunder at Arm & Hammer Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 pm. Adam Loewen (3-5, 3.20 ERA) will be on the mound for Reading.
