Florida Drops Finale to Daytona, 3-0

DAYTONA, Fla (Sept. 3, 2017) - The Florida Fire Frogs wrapped up their inaugural season with a 3-0 loss to the Daytona Tortugas on Sunday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. The Fire Frogs finished 7-7 against the Tortugas in 2017, and were handed their eighth series sweep of the season.

Daytona (20-48, 53-81) plated the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly to right off the bat of Brantley Bell, plating Blake Butler for the go-ahead run against Matt Withrow (0-1).
Butler (SV, 1) had a night to remember, as the 23-year- played all nine positions, and picked up his first career save with a scoreless ninth. The Fire Frogs did manage to put two runners on with one out in the final frame, but Alejandro Salazar bounced into a game-ending double play (1x4).
The Tortugas tacked on two more runs with two sac flies in the sixth against Withrow to put Florida (23-40, 48-82) in a three-run deficit.
Withrow picked up a quality start, despite suffering the loss. The 23-year-old allowed three runs on six hits, three walks and two strikeouts on 91 pitches (64 strikes).
Wyatt Strahan (2-6) picked up the win for Daytona, as the right-hander scattered four knocks while issuing just one walk and punching out four.
The Fire Frogs will take the next seven months off before returning to action in April, 2018.
