Blue Jays Hunt for Playoffs in AFL

The AFL regular season comes to an end on Thursday with two teams squaring off for the league championship on Sunday. The Blue Jays' contingent of prospects is playing for Salt River, which entered Monday just a half-game out of the East Division lead. Here's a look at how the Jays' prospects have fared.

• Andy Burns: The infielder has dabbled some in left field for Salt River, but his primary focus has been swinging the bat. Through Saturday night he had hit safely in 11 straight, just two off the longest streak in the AFL this season. He is hitting .343, eighth in the six-team league.
• Kenny Wilson: Wilson picked up two more hits (along with Burns) on Saturday against Peoria. He is hitting .250 but has a circuit-best 11 stolen bases.
• Marcus Stroman: Stroman's season began in May as part of the Fisher Cats rotation, but it's ending in the Salt River bullpen. After a tough outing to begin his AFL tenure, he has been lights out of late, producing three straight scoreless appearances. He has 11 K's in just 9.2 innings.
• Drew Hutchison: Using the AFL to build up innings after Tommy John Surgery, Hutchison has been solid in the AFL. He hit a few bumps his last time out, but prior to that outing had allowing just one run over 13 innings, earning Pitcher of the Week honors on November 4.
• Derrick Chung: A future Fisher Cat, he has acquitted himself well to more seasoned pitching hitting .378 as one of the team's three catchers.
• Aaron Sanchez: Another future Cat, this righty is perhaps the most talked about pitching prospects not only in the Blue Jays' system but in the entire Fall League. He has allowed just two runs over his five starts in the AFL, resulting in a 0.98 ERA. Averaging about one strikeout per inning, Sanchez has given up just five hits, and is coming off his first win against Peoria on Friday. His will be a name you'll want to keep an eye on when he comes to Manchester.
