McGuire Dominates In 7-3 Win

RHP Retires First 18 En Route To Ninth Win

READING, PA- Deck McGuire retired the first 18 Reading batters he faced and Kenny Wilson and Jack Murphy had three hits apiece as the Fisher Cats topped the Fightin Phils 7-3 on Sunday afternoon at FirstEnergy Stadium.

McGuire (9-9) allowed two runs on two hits in seven innings to improve to 4-0 in August. He walked one and struck out seven.

For the fourth consecutive game, the Fisher Cats scored the game's first run. In the top of the fourth inning, Kevin Nolan doubled and Adam Loewen singled him to third. Nolan scored on a sacrifice fly by Kevin Ahrens for a 1-0 lead.

New Hampshire (66-67) added another sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth inning. Nolan walked, moved to third on a single by Loewen. He scored his second run of the game on John Tolisano's fly out.

The Fisher Cats broke the game open with three runs in the top of the seventh inning against Reading starter and losing pitcher Ryan Demmin (1-1). Ryan Schimpf led off with a double and scored on a triple into the right field corner by Murphy. Lance Zawadzky followed with a sacrifice fly. Wilson then hit his third home run of the season, a solo shot to left field, to extend the lead to 5-0.

Reading's first base runner was Albert Cartwright, who led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a walk. Zach Collier followed with a run-scoring triple. Maikel Franco then singled Collier in to cut the New Hampshire lead to 5-2.

Kevin Ahrens added a two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning. For the New Hampshire first baseman, it was his fourth long ball of the season.

Reading's final run came in the bottom of the eighth inning. Troy Hanzawa was hit by a pitch, moved to third on a single by Cartwright and scored on a single by Collier.

The Fisher Cats return home for the final four home games on Monday at 6:35 PM against the Future Red Sox, the Portland Sea Dogs. The series features two giveaways and the final two fireworks shows of the season.
