Van Kirk Has 2 Hits, Manzella 2 RBI

Walden Matches Career High With 7K In 8-2 Loss

TRENTON, NJ- Brian Van Kirk had two hits and Tommy Manzella doubled in two runs for the Fisher Cats, but Trenton earned a split of the four game series in New Jersey with an 8-2 win over New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon.

Trenton took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Kyle Roller walked, moved to third on a double by Andrew Clark, and scored on a single by Carmen Angelini.

The Thunder extended the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Angelini walked, moved to second on a single by Mikeson Oliberto and scored on a double by Ramon Flores to make it 2-0. Reegie Corona followed with a two-run single to put Trenton in front 4-0.

New Hampshire starter Marcus Walden (6-10) left after five innings of five-hit ball. He allowed four runs, walked three and matched a career-best with seven strikeouts.

The Fisher Cats (51-48) cut the lead in the top of the seventh inning when four consecutive batters reached against winning pitcher, reliever Jeremy Bleich (1-1). Kevin Nolan and Ryan Schimpf walked and Jack Murphy singled to load the bases. Manzella doubled down the left field line to make it 4-2, but Bleich came back to record back-to-back strikeouts to secure the lead for the Thunder (50-50).

Trenton responded with four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to break the game open, sending nine to the plate. Andrew Clark knocked in a run with his third double of the game. 

The Fisher Cats return home on Monday night for the start a seven-game homestand against Harrisburg and Altoona. Kids get in free for the opener thanks to Hannaford Supermarkets.
