DUNEDIN, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees were edged 1-0 by the Dunedin Blue Jays on Monday night at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium as the Blue Jays completed a three-game sweep of the Manatees.
Brevard County (21-27 second half, 58-57 overall) starting pitcher Tyler Cravy (3-2, 2.24), despite allowing just one run over six innings of work, was saddled with his second loss in his seventh start of the year. He allowed four hits and a walk while striking out a season-high eight batters. Cravy lowered his ERA as a starter to 1.42, compared to a 3.26 ERA as a reliever.
Dunedin (19-27, 56-57) scored the game's lone run in the bottom of the second inning. Gustavo Pierre, who hit for the cycle in the first game of the series, led off the inning with a double off of the top of the left field wall. Pierre advanced to third base on a ground out and then scored on a Derrick Chung sacrifice fly to right field.
Stephen Peterson replaced Cravy on the mound in the seventh inning. Peterson worked two scoreless innings, including the eighth which saw Yadiel Rivera throw out Matt Newman at home, who was attempting to score from third on a ground ball.
John Anderson made his third spot start of the season for Dunedin. He surrendered a hit and walked two men over three innings of work.
Shawn Griffith was the first man out of the bullpen for the Blue Jays and pitched three scoreless innings. He allowed just one hit, struck out three and earned the win.
Justin Jackson followed Griffith and threw two scoreless innings before Ajay Meyer entered in the top of the ninth inning for Dunedin.
The Manatees tried to get a rally going as Nicky Delmonico singled with one out in the ninth, but he was picked off of first by catcher Derrick Chung. Cameron Garfield and Greg Hopkins both singled with two outs, but Ben McMahan struck out to end the contest.
Garfield, Hopkins and D'Vontrey Richardson each recorded a pair of hits for the 'Tees. Nick Ramirez saw his hitting streak end at 14 games.
Brevard County's road trip continues as they open a three-game set with the Tampa Yankees (21-26, 49-66) at George M. Steinbrenner Field on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. Brent Suter (7-7, 3.30 ERA) is scheduled to start for Brevard County. He will be opposed by Tampa's Scottie Allen (8-5, 3.57 ERA).
