Johnson leads 'Tees to shutout victory

VIERA, Fla. - Hobbs Johnson tossed six shutout innings to lead Brevard County to a 1-0 victory over the Dunedin Blue Jays at Space Coast Stadium in game two on Saturday Night.

Johnson (12-8, 2.93 ERA) allowed just three hits over his six shutout frames to complete the sweep of the doubleheader. The Blue Jays (76-61, 30-38 second half) loaded the bases against Johnson with no outs in the fourth frame. After Pierce Rankin lined out to second base, Peter Mooney hit a come-backer to the hill. Johnson threw home and catcher Cameron Garfield fired to first to complete the inning-ending double play.

Brevard County (73-61, 37-31) scored the only run of the game in the fifth inning. With one out, Garfield laid down a bunt, which resulted in a single. After Greg Hopkins singled to right field to put runners on first and second, Brandon Macias laced a base hit to left. Dwight Smith, Jr. threw out Garfield out the plate. Hopkins moved up to third on the play to put runners on the corners with two outs. Nathan Orf stepped up and delivered a run-scoring single to center field to plate Hopkins.

Right-hander Martin Viramontes (3-3, 3.70) logged two strikeouts in a perfect seventh inning to record his second save of the season.

Dunedin's Jesse Hernandez (6-11, 4.67) took the loss. He surrendered just one run on seven hits over five innings of work. 

The Manatees finish the season on Sunday afternoon with a 3:05 p.m. matinee against Dunedin. Jorge Lopez (10-9, 4.31 ERA) will face off against D-Jays starter Roberto Osuna (0-2, 7.20 ERA). The gates at Space Coast Stadium will open at 2:00 p.m.
