Tarpons go yard four times in set opener

TAMPA, FL: The Tampa Tarpons hit four home runs on their way to snapping a seven-game slide in a 9-2 triumph against the Florida Fire Frogs on Monday night at Steinbrenner Field.  

The Tarpons grabbed a couple tallies early. Angel Aguilar's sacrifice fly in the second got Tampa on the board. Rehabbing Yankee Giancarlo Stanton went yard off RHP Nolan Kingham in the third to extend the advantage to 2-0.
Dermis Garcia and Oswaldo Cabrera also hit homers in the fourth and sixth, respectively, to double Tampa's lead to 4-0.
Tampa put the game away in the seventh by scoring three times, highlighted by an Omar Carrizales run-scoring double, to balloon their lead to 7-0.
Kingham (2-2) surrendered seven hits and five earned runs with two walks and a team-best 11 strikeouts over seven frames.
The Fire Frogs scratched a pair of runs across in the top of the eighth. Brett Langhorne put the ball in play to plate Josephina for the first tally. William Contreras brought in Riley Delgado with a single to add another.
Contreras went 2-3 with a walk. Drew Lugbauer went 1-4 with a double.
Garcia slammed his second long ball of the night and Carrizales singled in Steven Sensley in the eighth to round out the scoring; 9-2 Tampa.
RHP Sean McLaughlin had his scoreless innings streak end at 11. He gave up one earned run and three hits in the eighth.
RHP Clarke Schmidt (2-2) tossed six shutout innings for the Tarpons, recording nine strikeouts as well. RHP Greg Weissert permitted two unearned runs in his two frames. RHP Kyle Zurak threw a scoreless ninth.
NEXT UP: The Fire Frogs send LHP Philip Pfeifer (0-1, 1.93) to the mound to try and earn a middle game victory opposite RHP Miguel Yajure (1-5, 3.52). First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. from Steinbrenner Field.
