TAMPA, Fla. (Aug. 27, 2018) - Joey Wentz made his first start since July 19 in the series opener against the Tampa Tarpons at George M. Steinbrenner Field on Monday night in the Florida Fire Frogs 3-1 loss. The Fire Frogs finished the 2018 season with a 5-7 mark on Mondays.

The Atlanta Braves' 10th-ranked prospect struck out Estevan Florial to start his outing, and finished the night with three punchouts. The left-handed hurler worked just one time through Tampa's (32-31, 67-66) lineup, allowing a run on three hits on 43 pitches (26 strikes).
Wentz (3-3) took the loss on Monday night due to the RBI single by Angel Aguilar in the second frame to put Florida (21-39, 50-76) in a one-run deficit.
The Tarpons added two more runs in the fourth against the combination of Filyer Sanchez and Tyler Watson . Sanchez hit Dom Thompson-Williams to lead off the inning, and allowed a double to Ben Ruta to put runners at second and third after Isiah Gilliam flew out to left for the first out.
Watson let go of a wild pitch to Hoy Jun Park to bring home Thompson-Williams, and ended the at-bat with an RBI knock by the batter to extend the disadvantage to three.
Marcus Mooney (1x4, RBI) broke up the shutout with a bases-loaded, run-scoring single to center in the eighth against Greg Weissert (SV, 4).
Drew Waters (1x4, BB) extended his on-base streak to 17 games with an infield single in the third.
Deivi Garcia (2-0) picked up the win for the home team, blanking the visitors through 5.2 innings, while giving up five hits, walking three and striking out eight.
Weissert earned his fourth save with the run allowed on three knocks, a free pass and two strikeouts.
