Frank Mason III Joins Squirrels Saturday

National Player of the Year To Throw Out First Pitch

The Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, are excited to welcome the 2016-2017NCAA Men's Basketball Player of the Year Frank Mason to The Diamond on Saturday, May 20. The Petersburg native will throw out the ceremonial firstpitch prior to Saturday's Flying Squirrels contest against the Harrisburg Senators. Mason is also tentatively scheduled to sign autographs on the concourse at a to be determined time during the game. Tickets and additional information for the event can be found here.

Mason, the former Kansas Jayhawk standout, was the consensus Player of the Year and recently finished his combine workout in advance of the NBA draft on June 22. His appearance is being provided by Tarrer Management. In-Your-Face Fireworks will follow his appearance on Saturday after the game, presented by Markel.

"We are obviously excited about having Frank here," said Flying Squirrels VP & COO Todd "Parney" Parnell. "He has represented our region well at Kansas and we look forward to celebrating his great college career and accomplishments and join as a community to wish him well in the NBA."

About Frank Mason III:

Frank Mason spent four years as point guard at the University of Kansas. Following the 2016-2017 he was named National Player of the Year by all of the major national player awards, making him consensus national player of the year. Those awards include the John R. Wooden Award, CBS Sports National Player of the Year, the USA Today, the Sporting News Player of theYear, Associated Press Player of the Year, Naismith College Player of the Year, Oscar Robertson Trophy, and NABC Player of the Year. He was also a consensus All-America selection for his senior season at Kansas.

Mason grew up in Petersburg and attended Petersburg High School. He scored 1,901 points in his four-year career at Petersburg, which is the second highest scoring total in school history behind NBA Hall of Famer Moses Malone.

The 23-year old recently finished the NBA Draft Combine and is projected to be selected the upcoming NBA draft.

The Squirrels continue their seven game road trip in Akron, OH on Monday at 6:35 p.m. left-hander Andrew Suarez (2-3, 3.48) will make the start for Richmond against Akron RHP D.J. Brown (0-2, 9.95).
