Unique Group of Celebrities and Entertainment Acts to Visit Richmond in 2013
February 20, 2013
RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the 2012 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants, continue a week-long unveiling of their 2013 Promotional Calendar with the release of a full-slate of popular national entertainment acts and celebrity appearances.

Coupled with their respective bobblehead nights, Virginia Tech Football Coach Frank Beamer and VCU Basketball Coach Shaka Smart will each make appearances at the ballpark during the 2013 season. Smart will be on hand for Shaka Smart Bobblehead Night on May 17th, while Beamer will visit The Diamond for Frank Beamer Bobblehead Night on July 19th.

The Squirrels will also welcome back two of the most popular entertainment acts in sports, as the Phillie Phanatic will perform during the game on May 21st. On August 2nd, the ZOOperstars bring their one-of-a-kind show to The Diamond. One of the most talked about events in minor league baseball in 2012, the Human Cannonball will once again be launched in 2013 on May 18th.

"We've gotten a lot of feedback from fans over our first three years as to which acts really kept them entertained throughout the game," said Todd "Parney" Parnell. "Of the acts we have had in the past, the overwhelming response to the Phanatic and ZOOperstars made it an easy decision to bring each back this year." "As far as the human cannonball, that was just awesome and needed to happen again."

The Legends of Wrestling Series, which has been a staple of Squirrels baseball, will also continue in 2013. Kevin "Big Sexy" Nash will be on hand for the Squirrels game with Portland on July 30th. Additionally, the team will welcome a trio of celebrities from television fame. Larry Thomas "The Soup Nazi" from Seinfeld will appear on April 19th. On June 4th, Tim & Tickle from The Moonshiners will visit the ballpark, and on August 23rd, Skipper Bivins from Hillbilly Handfishin' will complete the lineup of celebrities for 2013.

"We really wanted to think outside the box in regards to the celebrities we brought to Richmond this season," added Parnell. "And we know that each of the celebrities we are bringing in will have fun with their interaction with our fans and give them an experience they can't get anywhere else."
