RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the 2012 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants, will welcome 2013 Washington Redskins Pro Bowl linebacker Ryan Kerrigan to Opening Night at The Diamond presented by Jani-King for a ceremonial first pitch prior to the game against the New Britain Rock Cats on Thursday, April 4 at 6:35 p.m.
"Our goal is to do everything we can to give fans in this region unique opportunities and special game day experiences," said Flying Squirrels' Vice President & COO Todd "Parney" Parnell. "With Ryan Kerrigan in attendance, it will truly be a memorable night."
Kerrigan, a first round selection (16th overall) of the Redskins in the 2011 NFL Draft, was selected to his first Pro Bowl following the 2012 season. A collegiate All-American at Purdue University, Kerrigan was also selected to the Pro Football Weekly/Professional Football Writers of America All-Rookie Team following his rookie season in 2011. In just two seasons, he has become one of the most impactful Redskins on the field, and one of the most popular off it.
"The Flying Squirrels take our role as community ambassadors very seriously," added Parnell. "The fact that a marquee player like Ryan Kerrigan will be with us for opening night showcases both his and the Redskins' continued commitment to making a positive and lasting impact in the City of Richmond."
"Our theme will be a celebration of the past (Richmond Braves - Great Eight), present (Flying Squirrels - San Francisco Giants) and future of Richmond sports," said Parnell.
