FORT MYERS, Fla. - Alex Kirilloff hit his second home run with Fort Myers and 15th of the year and Charlie Barnes again shut down St. Lucie, as the Miracle blanked the Mets, 5-0, on Tuesday night at Hammond Stadium.
Kirilloff's blast, a majestic solo shot in the sixth, gave the Miracle a 3-0 lead. The Miracle tacked on two more runs in the inning on a Ben Rortvedt sacrifice fly and a Brandon Lopez RBI double to push the lead to 5-0.
For the second consecutive night, the Miracle scored in the first inning. With one out and a runner at second, Kirilloff collected his first RBI of the night on a double into the left field corner. The right fielder finished 2-4 with two RBI's.
Still leading 1-0 in the fourth, the Miracle extended their lead on a Joe Cronin sacrifice fly. Fort Myers broke the game open with a three-run sixth inning, highlighted by Kirilloff's home run.
St. Lucie threatened to get on the board in the eighth, but Colton Davis retired Jeremy Vasquez on a comebacker with the bases loaded and two outs to escape the jam.
Barnes (4-5) earned his fourth win of the season with seven shutout innings. The Sumter, South Carolina native struck out two and did not walk a batter. He scattered five hits. In two starts this season against St. Lucie, Barnes has allowed one run in 13.1 innings. Davis tossed two scoreless innings out of the bullpen to preserve the shutout.
Michael Gibbons (1-6) suffered the loss after surrendering five runs (four earned) in six innings of work. The right-hander yielded eight hits.
The Miracle look for the series sweep on Wednesday night with Tyler Wells (7-4, 2.85) on the mound. First pitch is at 7:00 p.m.
