DUNEDIN, Fla. - The Miracle rallied to tie the game in the top of the ninth inning, but Josh Palacios delivered a walk-off RBI single with two out in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Dunedin Blue Jays to a 2-1 victory on Saturday night at Dunedin Stadium.
Fort Myers had just one hit through the first eight frames, but Travis Blankenhorn opened the ninth with a booming double over the head of center fielder Palacios. Jaylin Davis advanced him to third with a ground out to first. After Lewin Diaz struck out looking, Jimmy Kerrigan hit a slow grounder to third for an RBI infield single to bring home Blankenhorn with the tying run.
In the bottom of the inning, John La Prise singled with one out and Nash Knight reached on an error by first baseman Diaz. The Miracle lifted Clark Beeker from the game and brought Ryan Mason in from the bullpen. He got D.J. Davis to ground out to first, but Palacios followed with his single to left. It was just out of the reach of shortstop Joe Cronin, who dove to his left.
Trevor May started for the Miracle in his first appearance on a MLB rehab assignment. The right-hander went three-plus scoreless innings and allowed one hit. He walked three, struck out five, and threw 58 pitches (30 strikes).
Andrew Vasquez followed with two perfect innings and three strikeouts out of the Fort Myers bullpen. Beeker (1-2) suffered the loss in relief. He allowed one earned run in 3.1 innings and struck out three.
Ty Tice (1-0) picked up the win for Dunedin, recording the final out of the top of the ninth inning. The Blue Jays swept the three-game series and are 5-1 against the Miracle this season.
The Miracle have the day off on Sunday before opening a four-game series in Jupiter against the Hammerheads on Monday night. Right-hander Sean Poppen (0-2) will start for Fort Myers. First pitch from Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium is 6:30 p.m.
