PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Ryan Costello hit his second homer in three games, but the St. Lucie Mets scored seven runs in the fourth inning and beat the Miracle in the series finale, 7-2.
The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Miracle. They went 5-1 on their road trip to Clearwater and Port St. Lucie.
With the game scoreless in the bottom of the fourth and one out, Desmond Lindsay hit a solo home run off Miracle starter Jhoan Duran. Two singles followed and Duran was forced to exit with what appeared to be a right hand injury.
Melvi Acosta replaced Duran and the Mets loaded the bases with two out against him. Blake Tiberi cleared the bases with a three-run double and two batters later Todd Frazier, who is with St. Lucie on a MLB rehab assignment, capped the inning with a three-run home run.
The Miracle scored their first run in the sixth on an RBI single by Ryan Jeffers. Costello's homer, a long blast just to the right of center, came in the ninth.
Fort Myers had chances to get back into the game, but left 10 on base and was just 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
Duran (0-2) suffered the loss. He was charged with three runs on four hits in 3.1 innings. He walked three and struck out five. Acosta fanned six in his 3.2 innings of work and Jacob Blank struck out the side in a perfect bottom of the eighth out of the Miracle bullpen.
The Miracle return home to host the Charlotte Stone Crabs on Thursday night at Hammond Stadium. Left-hander Tyler Watson will start for the Miracle. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
