FORT MYERS, Fla. (July 27, 2022) – The Mussels fell victim to the big inning for the second straight night, allowing seven runs in a single inning to Tampa in Game 2 of Wednesday’s doubleheader at Hammond Stadium.

Jordan Carr spun four scoreless innings for Fort Myers (51-37, 10-14) allowing just one hit while striking out four.

After he exited, the Tarpons (44-46, 17-7) rallied for seven runs on just three hits against Mussels’ reliever Anthony Escobar (0-1) to win the game 7-1.

Game 2 was much more competitive. In a scoreless top of the first inning, Tarpons shortstop Alexander Vargas blasted a home run into the right field bleachers to make the score 1-0 Tampa. Anthony Garcia then tripled on a line drive to right-center field. Antonio Gomez followed with a single to center field scoring Garcia to make the score 2-0.

In the top of the second, Christopher Familia doubled on a line drive to left-center field. Raimfer Salinas followed with a double of his own, scoring Familia to make the score 3-0 Tampa.

In the bottom of the third inning, Dillon Tatum roped a single to center field. Misael Urbina then blasted a double down the left field line which rattled around in the corner. A series of circus events advanced Urbina to third before Tatum scored to make the score 3-1 Tarpons.

In the bottom of the fifth, Mikey Perez roped a double to left. Tatum then drew a walk and Perez advanced on a wild pitch. Luis Baez then singled to left field, scoring Perez to make the score 3-2 Tampa.

The Mussels will turn to RHP Marco Raya (3-1, 2.65) on Thursday. Coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. EDT on the Mighty Mussels Baseball Network.
