FORT MYERS, Fla. - Miguel Sanó and Mark Contreras each went deep, as the Fort Myers Miracle rallied from an early deficit to defeat the Palm Beach Cardinals, 7-4, on Wednesday night at Hammond Stadium.
After falling behind 4-0 after three and a half innings, the Miracle rallied for three runs in the fourth. With two on and one out, Sano crushed a 1-0 slider onto the berm beyond the left-field fence to close the gap to 4-3.
Contreras tied the game at four with a leadoff home run in the sixth. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded and one out, the Miracle took their first lead of the game on a Caleb Hamilton sacrifice fly. A second run scored when shortstop Kramer Robertson threw the ball into right field trying to nab Sano, who was tagging on the play. Travis Blankenhorn made it 7-4 with a run scoring single.
Miracle left-hander Charlie Barnes worked four innings. He allowed four runs (three earned) and collected a no decision. In his Miracle debut, Jovani Moran (1-0) worked 2.2 scoreless innings to earn the win. Adam Bray entered after a 46-minute rain delay in the top of the seventh and pitched the final 2.1 innings to earn his first save of the season.
Palm Beach starter Casey Meisner (4-2) allowed seven runs (six earned) in six innings of work. The Cypress, Texas native allowed two home runs.
The Miracle can split the four-game series with a win in Thursday night's series finale. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m.
