LANSING, Mich. -- The TinCaps had their six-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday afternoon at Cooley Law School Stadium in a 5-3 loss to the Lansing Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays).

The Lugnuts (31-25, 74-52) opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning with a three-run frame. After an RBI single by Ryan Gold made it 1-0, the turning point of the game came on an umpire's interference play. With two outs and Gold at first base, Bryan Lizardo hit a ground ball toward TinCaps (27-27, 59-64) second baseman Esteury Ruiz . But the ball hit base umpire Lance Seilhamer, causing interference to be enforced, meaning that Lizardo was given credit for a hit. After that, Jesus Navarro and Reggie Pruitt hit consecutive RBI singles to increase Lansing's lead to 3-0.
Fort Wayne chipped into its deficit in the top of the third as left fielder Hunter Jarmon walked, shortstop Owen Miller singled, and with two outs, right fielder Jack Suwinski delivered an RBI single to plate Jarmon.
The Lugnuts, however, scored an unearned run in their half of the fifth go back on top by three, 4-1.
The TinCaps clawed back with a solo home run by Jalen Washington to lead off the seventh. In the eighth, Ruiz tripled and scored on another Suwinski RBI single. Suwinski now has 18 RBIs over his last 18 games.
That was as close as the 'Caps would get though, as the Lugnuts added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth.
