TinCaps Suffer Third Consecutive 1-Run Loss

Lake County Walks Off in Ninth, 6-5
August 23, 2014
EASTLAKE, Ohio -- For the third night in a row, the TinCaps lost on the road to the Lake County Captains by a run. After consecutive 8-7 setbacks, Fort Wayne fell 6-5 on Saturday night at Classic Park. Lake County walked off in the bottom of the ninth inning on a throwing error by third baseman Dustin Peterson.
Fort Wayne (26-35, 56-74) tied the game at five in the top of the ninth on an RBI-groundout by Fernando Perez with the bases loaded against Carlos Melo (2-1).
But in the bottom of the ninth, Paul Hendrix led off with an opposite-field single against Ryan Butler (1-1). The right-hander then struck out Nellie Rodriguez -- who finished the game 0-for-5 with five strikeouts -- and walked Mike Papi. Hendrix had stolen second base during Rodriguez's at-bat. So with one out and runners at first and second, Dorssys Paulino hit a sharp groundball to third baseman Dustin Peterson. With the prospect of a double play, Peterson threw to second base. However, his throw was errant and ended up in right field. Hendrix scored to end the game.
Lake County (33-27, 60-70) had taken a 5-4 lead with a four-run fifth. The Captains got on the scoreboard for the first time in the fourth, scoring against starter Jimmi Brasoban with two outs.
The TinCaps led 4-0 early with two runs in each of the first two innings. Fort Wayne got an unearned run in the first, as well as one on a Franmil Reyes single. Henry Charles it a two-run homer in second over the left field wall the opposite way.
The TinCaps start a six-game homestand at Parkview Field on Sunday evening at 6:05 p.m. with the first of three games against the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Cody Hebner is scheduled to start for Fort Wayne against left-hander Chris Kirsch. The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380, TinCaps.com, and the TuneIn Radio app, and seen on XFINITY Channel 81 in Indiana.
