FORT WAYNE, Ind. --  After a rainout Thursday night and a lengthy rain delay Friday night, the only thing raining at Parkview Field on Sunday afternoon was runs and hits for the TinCaps as they swept a doubleheader against the West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers). Fort Wayne won Game 1, 8-3, and Game 2, 6-3.

In Game 1, the TinCaps (2-2, 34-39) were in front 1-0 in the third inning when right fielder Jack Suwinski  led off with a solo home run to make it 2-0.

Fort Wayne later broke things open in the fifth. A pair of singles to lead off the inning by first baseman Jalen Washington  and Suwinski, respectively, set things up for center fielder Jeisson Rosario , who laid down a run-scoring bunt. That scored Washington and the following batter, left fielder Robbie Podorsky , also laid down a bunt single that increased the home team's advantage to 4-0. Still in the fifth, designated hitter Tirso Ornelas  smacked a three-run home run-his seventh of the season that expanded the lead to 7-0 for the TinCaps. Fort Wayne added one more on a Justin Lopez  double to cap a six-run frame.

West Michigan (2-2, 38-36) responded with a pair of runs in the sixth. After an RBI groundout by Jose Azocar, first baseman Reynaldo Rivera sent a solo homer to right-center making it 8-2 in favor of the TinCaps.

Though the Whitecaps tacked on an unearned run in the ninth that was as close as they'd come.

Starter Mason Thompson  picked up the win, striking out a career-high seven and only allowing two runs on three hits over 5 ⅓ innings. Thompson set the tone early by striking out the side to start the game. Ben Sheckler followed him out of the bullpen.

After a 30-minute break between games, the TinCaps picked things up as they left them exploding for a four-spot in the bottom of the first. Luis Campusano  started the scoring with an RBI single four batters into the game. Then Lopez stepped up with runners at the corners and sent a 1-1 pitch over the fence in right, extending Fort Wayne's lead to 4-0.

Just an inning later the TinCaps picked up another run off of a bases loaded walk for Ornelas, making it 5-0.

The Whitecaps struck for two runs in the fourth as Garrett McCain provided an RBI double and Anthony Pereira produced an RBI single, trimming their deficit to 5-2.

Fort Wayne, however, retaliated with an unearned an error to balloon the lead back to 6-2. West Michigan rallied for a run in the seventh but the visitors' comeback bid fell short there.

Between the two games, Suwinski shined, going 4-for-5 with two singles, a double, a homer, and a walk.

Game 2 starter Tom Cosgrove  (2-3) went five innings, recording six strikeouts. Former IPFW Mastodon Evan Miller  took the baton from Cosgrove for the final two frames.
