Charity Golf Classic History
For the past 24 years the Frederick Keys have hosted the Annual Frederick Keys Charity Golf Classic. Over the course of 24 years, the Keys have raised over $110,000 for the Joel A. Stephens Memorial Fund. This year's tournament date is Tuesday, July 16th. Golfers sign in beginning at 8 am with golf starting at 9 am. Light breakfast refreshments are available at that time; lunch is served once golfers return to the clubhouse.
In the fall of 1999, the Frederick Keys created The Joel A. Stephens Memorial Fund through the Community Foundation of Frederick County (MD) to honor a courageous and compassionate Orioles minor leaguer who died September 20, 1998 at the age of 22. This fund is part of the Community Foundation of Frederick County's Universal Grant Application funding program and is available to nonprofit organizations that provide direct services to our Frederick County youth and young adults. Criteria for grant applications include: capital expenditures, seed money, or a one-time purchase or service to benefit their programs. Formerly known as "Joel's Kids" the Joel A. Stephens Memorial Fund is now known as "Frederick Keys Care." Recipients for 2018-2019 are Sophie and Madigan's Playground, Advocates for Homeless Families, Heartly House, YMCA, Blessings in a Backpack, and SHIP.
Proceeds from the tournament go to the Joel A. Stephens Memorial Fund (Frederick Keys Care). Opportunities to support this fund through the 24th Annual Frederick Keys Charity Golf Classic include playing as part of a foursome, sponsoring a tee box, bidding at the silent auction to name a few.
