ZEBULON, N.C-Despite another multi-home run game from Wilson Garcia , the Carolina Mudcats defeated the Frederick Keys 5-3 on Wednesday night at Five County Stadium. It was Garcia's sixth multi-home run game of the year as he drove in all three runs for Frederick.
After hitting four first inning home runs during the Keys (38-45, 3-11) nine-game homestand, Garcia launched a two-run blast to give the Keys a 2-0 lead after one. T.J. Nichting led off with a single before scoring on the homer.
In the second, the Mudcats (42-41, 8-5) tied the game. Tucker Neuhaus hit a leadoff triple, and scored on a sacrifice fly The score remained 2-1 Keys until the fifth. After Devin Hariston tripled, Dallas Carroll hit a two-run home run to give the Mudcats a one-run lead.
Garcia tied up the game in the sixth with his second home run of the game. It was Garcia's second multi-home run game in as many days and his fourth in the past week.
The Mudcats retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Weston Wilson singled, and scored on a Ryan Aguilar triple. Following a hit by pitch, Nick Roscetti walked to load the bases. Aguilar then scored on an RBI groundout to make it 5-3 Mudcats.
Frederick threatened in the ninth inning. After Alejandro Juvier reached on a fielder's choice, Chris Clare walk to bring up the go-ahead run. Jake Ring then struck out to end the ballgame.
After surrendering the two first inning runs, Victor Diaz (4-5) settled down to produce a quality outing and earned the victory. The right-hander scattered seven hits over six frames, allowing just three runs while walking four. In his Carolina League debut, Matthias Dietz (0-1) took the loss. Dietz surrendered five runs on seven hits over five innings while walking three and striking out four. Alec Kenilvort picked up his first save by retiring the final out of the game.
The Keys and Mudcats continue their series on Thursday night. Right-hander Lucas Humpal (2-7, 4.11) makes the start against Mudcats right-hander Cam Roegner (7-4, 2.05). First pitch is scheduled from 7:00 p.m., and the game can be heard on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn Radio app.
