FREDERICK, MD-The Lynchburg Hillcats utilized three multi-run innings to defeat the Frederick Keys 10-5 on Tuesday night at Nymeo Field. With the setback, the Hillcats pulled a four-game sweep and extended the Keys slide to six games. That mark equals a season-high.
After a Wilson Garcia home run in the first off Lynchburg starter Zach Plesac, the visitors countered with four runs in the second. With two outs, Jorma Rodriguez collected a bunt single off Michael Baumann , while a walk and an RBI single by Emmanuel Tapia tied the game. One batter later, Angel Lopez hit a three-run homer to left.
Part of six unanswered runs scored by the Hillcats (38-42, 9-4), Jodd Carter added to the lead with a solo homer in the fifth and a two-run blast in the sixth.
Trailing 7-1, the Keys (38-43, 3-10) picked up a run in the seventh on the second home run of the game by Garcia. It marked his fifth multi-homer game with Frederick this year and his seventh deep fly of the homestand. Additionally, the Venezuela native established a new career-high for home runs (14) surpassing his previous high set last year with Advanced-A Clearwater.
In the seventh, the Keys made it a two-run game. Following a double by Cole Billingsley and a single by Chris Clare , Jake Ring plated Billingsley with a groundout to the right side. One batter later, Yojhan Quevedo clubbed a two-run homer to left.
Looking for cushion, Lynchburg tallied three more runs in the ninth off Matt Trowbridge . With a runner on and two outs, Tapia walked and Lopez added his fourth RBI of the game via a dunk single to center. Ernie Clement then added a two-run single to make it 10-5.
Plesac (5-4) earned the win allowing two runs on three hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out five. Baumann (4-2) suffered the loss surrendering five runs on seven hits in five frames. Dalbert Siri pitched the final 1.1 innings for Lynchburg to post his fourth save.
The Keys hit the road on Wednesday, beginning a five-game series with the Carolina Mudcats. In game one, Frederick faces Mudcats right-hander Victor Diaz (3-5, 4.38).
