SALEM, VA-Jordan Procyshen delivered a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to lead the Salem Red Sox to a 7-6 win over the Frederick Keys on Saturday night at Haley Toyota Field. A game that saw the lead change hands three times in the final two innings, the Keys have now dropped back-to-back game for the first time since early June.
With the Keys (36-36, 1-2) leading 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth, the Red Sox (34-37, 2-1) tallied four straight hits off Mike Burke . Chris Madera singled to send up Tyler Hill. After failing to bunt Madera into scoring position, Hill cranked a double off the leftfield wall to put the winning run at second. The next batter, Trenton Kemp, drove home the tying run with a single before Procyshen lined an 0-1 pitch down the rightfield line to end the game.
Leading 4-2 entering the bottom of the eighth, the Keys saw the Red Sox take their first lead. With men at the corners and two outs, C.J. Chatham made it a one-run game with an RBI single. Zach Muckenhirn then went to a full count against Bobby Dalbec who doubled to right to put Salem ahead temporarily.
In the ninth, the orange and black regained the advantage thanks to three straight singles off Yankory Pimentel. Base hits by Alejandro Juvier and T.J. Nichting put men at the corners for Chris Clare who singled through the right side to re-tie the game. Two batters later, Randolph Gassaway grounded out to plate the go-ahead run.
The Keys held a 2-0 lead through the first 5.5 innings. With men at first and second in the fourth, Jake Ring singled home Wilson Garcia . Two frames later, Garcia slugged a solo home run to right off Daniel Gonzalez. Salem tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run double by Kemp. Things remain tied until the eighth, when the Keys used a one-out throwing error by Chatham at short and an RBI single by Daniel Fajardo to go ahead for the second time.
Pimentel (1-1) suffered a blown save but earned the win. He allowed two runs on three hits in the ninth. Burke (0-1) was tagged with the loss, surrendering two runs on four hits.
The Keys and Red Sox play their series finale on Sunday at Haley Toyota Field. Left-hander Alex Wells (3-4, 3.57) starts for Frederick and will be opposed by Salem right-hander Bryan Mata (4-2, 3.29). First pitch is at 4:05 p.m and the broadcast can be heard on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn App.
