Round Rock, TX (Thursday, August 1) - The Fresno Grizzlies (53-57) lost their sixth straight and were defeated for the eighth time in nine games Thursday evening in a visit to the Round Rock Express (65-44). Round Rock, scoring 14 unanswered runs at one point, took it by a 15-7 final. The Express swept the three-game series, the clubs' lone meeting this season.
Jake Noll's 11th home run of the season in the second inning, which landed on Dell Diamond's roof in left field, made the score 3-0 Fresno. Noll has hit safely in 15 of his last 16 games. It was 4-0 after a José Marmolejos RBI double into the right field corner later that inning, and 6-1 in the third when Drew Ward's first hit and RBI(s) with Fresno came on a two-run double off the wall in center.
A pair of former Grizzlies collected three hits and drove in three runs: Nick Tanielu hit a three-run homer (12) in the third inning, before Jack Mayfield had RBI singles in the fourth and fifth, and a run-scoring double in the sixth. Tanielu's home run tied the game 6-6 before the Express ran away with the rest. Alex De Goti led the Houston Astros' top affiliate with four hits and three runs scored, with a pair of doubles, and also drove in two runs. With walks, Mayfield reached base four times, De Goti five.
Round Rock right-hander Humberto Castellanos fired three perfect innings (6-7-8), and struck out four in the game's standout pitching performance. Marmolejos (on base four times, two walks) finished the night's scoring with his second RBI double (left field), in the ninth.
