Grizz slug their way to third straight victory and series win at Reno on Monday

The Fresno Grizzlies won their third straight Monday afternoon at Reno, taking the rare five-game season-opening series from the Aces after dropping the first two contests. In the 11-5 victory, each Fresno batter had at least one hit, four had two hits, while seven scored at least one run. The Grizzlies mashed three homers in the Northern Nevada sunshine, socking eight over five days.
Cody Decker launched a homer to left field for a consecutive day, staking the Aces to a 1-0 lead in the home half of the second. Following the homer, Grizz starter Kent Emanuel retired the next eight batters in a row, striking out five of the next six, three looking.
Fresno gave Emanuel well-deserved run support in the fourth, sending nine batters to the plate, scoring five times. Kyle Tucker, Tyler White (double), A.J. Reed (RBI) and Tim Federowicz (double, RBI) led the inning with four consecutive base hits. Jon Kemmer (2-for-4, 3 RBI) followed with a sac fly, making the score 3-1. It was 4-1 when Jack Mayfield (2-for-5, 3 RBI) doubled to the left field gap, and after a Tony Kemp single, it was 5-1 when Kemp stole second and Mayfield scored on a double steal.  
Tucker (7-for-20) and Mayfield (8-for-21) extended hit streaks to five games, the only Grizzlies to hit safely in each game thus far. Mayfield leads the club in extra-base hits (6) and RBI (10).
The southpaw Emanuel (1-0) enjoyed the winning decision by scattering four hits and two walks over five innings, with six strikeouts. The run was earned. Fresno hung the loss on right-hander Jake Buchanan (0-1), a former Grizz/Astro and a member of Fresno's 2015 Triple-A championship club (4.0 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 0 K).
Tim Federowicz tee'd off on his first home run with Fresno in the sixth, leading the inning with a towering solo shot to left, for a 6-1 advantage. Later in the inning Tucker walked with the bases loaded for the fourth RBI of his Triple-A debut.
Leading 7-1 in the seventh, Mayfield ripped his third home run of the series on a line drive to left, a two-run shot following a Federowicz walk. Federowicz (2-for-3, 2 RBI) scored three times in the ballgame.
Reno cut Fresno's lead in half to 9-5 in the eighth, batting around. Decker smacked his second homer of the game and third in two days to center, a three-run shot that that gave him four RBI in a 4-for-4 afternoon. In the top of the ninth however, Kemmer lifted his second homer in three days for the 11-5 final, a two-run shot after Reed (2-for-5) set the table with a leadoff double.
The Grizzlies will next be in action as the Fresno Tacos in the home opener, Tuesday evening at 7:05 p.m. against the Tacoma Rainiers. Fresno will start RHP Mike Hauschild, opposite RHP Christian Bergman for Tacoma. It will be the 21st home opener in Fresno's Triple-A baseball history, and the 17th at Chukchansi Park downtown.
