FRISCO, Texas (April 5, 2018) - Fueled by the first-ever Deep Ellum Brewing Party @ The Yard, the Frisco RoughRiders welcomed the largest Opening Day crowd in franchise history Thursday evening at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The announced ballpark-wide crowd of 11,015 surpassed the previous Opening Day record of 10,773 on April 18, 2004.
More than 2,000 party-goers arrived at Dr Pepper Ballpark specifically for the Deep Ellum Brewing Party @ The Yard, the newest and hottest party scene in North Texas. Scheduled for each Thursday RoughRiders' home date, the Party @ The Yard transforms the area beyond the outfield wall - including the world-renowned Choctaw Lazy River - into the place to be and be seen for DFW's millennials, singles and young professionals looking to get an early start on the weekend. In addition to dollar beer and other drink specials, Thursday's Party @ The Yard visitors enjoyed the hip-hop stylings of special guest DJ Spinderella from Salt-N-Pepa and local celebrity DJSC.
"Our goal with Party @ The Yard is to create an unrivaled outdoor party and social experience that doesn't focus on the baseball game being played on the field, but rather uses it as a unique backdrop for a post-work-or-school evening out with friends," Riders General Partner and CEO Chuck Greenberg said. "We're incredibly excited about tonight's inaugural Party @ The Yard turnout that powered our largest Opening Day crowd in team history, and we're looking forward to seeing Party @ The Yard continue to grow each Thursday this season and into the future."
The RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, continue their season-opening, six-day homestand Friday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. against the Tulsa Drillers (Los Angeles Dodgers). The opening stanza will continue each day through Tuesday. About the RoughRiders
The Frisco RoughRiders are the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers and play their games at beautiful Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, Texas. The team was founded in 2003 and has finished first among all Double-A franchises in attendance in each of the last 13 seasons (2005-2017). In August 2014, the RoughRiders were purchased by an ownership group led by Chuck Greenberg. Since then, the new ownership group, together with the City of Frisco, has spearheaded numerous major franchise enhancements, investing over $8 million in a wide array of facility upgrades and improvements, including a state-of-the-art HD video board, sound system, Bull Moose Saloon, InTouch Grille, Riders Outpost Team Store and the world's largest water feature in a sports facility, the massive Choctaw Lazy River. These enhancements earned the Riders and the City of Frisco Ballpark Digest's prestigious "Best Ballpark Renovation" award for two consecutive years (2015 and 2016). More than 140 former RoughRiders players have gone on to play Major League Baseball, including All-Stars Chris Davis, Adrian Gonzalez, Ian Kinsler and Neftali Feliz, as well as current Rangers stars Elvis Andrus, Rougned Odor and Nomar Mazara.
