FRISCO, TEXAS (September 4, 2016) - The Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, lost game one of Sunday's doubleheader 5-4 against the Midland RockHounds at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
Trailing 5-2 entering the ninth, the Riders (62-75 overall, 24-44 second half) scored a pair of runs on a throwing error by Midland reliever Kyle Finnegan and a fielding error by Richie Martin. With the bases loaded and two outs, Isiah Kiner-Falefa flew out to center field to end the game, leaving the tying run on at third base.
The Riders took an early 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly but gave up three runs in the second inning to fall behind 3-1. Danny Oh, Martin, and Brett Vertigan each drove in a run against Riders starter Ariel Jurado (1-4) in the second.
Leading 3-2 in the sixth, Midland (77-61, 44-24) added an insurance tally on an RBI single from Martin, putting the RockHounds ahead 4-2. Martin went 3-for-3 and has driven in seven runs in the last two games. The RockHounds added a final tally in the seventh, with the decisive run scoring on a RBI single from Yairo Munoz.
Eduard Pinto put together his eighth multi-hit game in 27 contests with Frisco, going 2-for-3. His RBI single in the fourth brought the Riders within a run at 3-2. Joe Jackson extended his season-long hit streak to 11 games, going 1-for-4 with a double.
Game two of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. Frank Lopez (5-6, 5.48 ERA) is Frisco's scheduled starter, while Midland counters with Andres Avila (6-3, 3.62 ERA).
