Astros announce 2014 promotional schedule

Single game tickets will be available online Monday, May 19th
May 16, 2014

Greeneville, TN - The Greeneville Astros have released their 2014 promotional schedule. With fireworks nights, theme nights, promotions and fun giveaways, the Astros will be offering fans a full slate of entertainment to go along with an exciting game schedule beginning with Opening Day against the Elizabethton Twins at Pioneer Park on June 19th

Fans will be able to purchase single game tickets from www.greenevilleastros.com/tickets beginning Monday, May 19th at 10:00am. Tickets will be available from the Pioneer Park ticket office following Memorial Day weekend.

"We believe we have put together an exciting promotional schedule this year that will give Astros fans even more incentive to come and enjoy a great day at the ballpark," said Astros general manager David Lane. "The season is just a month away and we can't wait to get started."

Throughout the 2014 season, the Astros will be offering fans numerous chances to receive free giveaways upon entrance into the ballpark, beginning with the magnet schedule giveaway presented by The Terry Law Firm on Opening Day. Other giveaways include items such as umbrellas, jersey rally towels, hand fans presented by Legacy Fine Jewelers, Astros stickers, and Astros jerseys of former Greeneville Astros MVP and MLB All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve.

In addition to all of the great giveaways already mentioned, one of the most anticipated giveaways each year is the annual Greeneville Astros Hometown Hero Bobblehead presented by Laughlin Memorial Hospital. This year, the collector's item will recognize the historic day of September 4, 1864 in the town of Greeneville.

On that date, General John Hunt Morgan was killed outside the Dickson-Williams mansion downtown, and Cumberland Presbyterian Church had a cannonball fired into its wall which led to it being known as the "Cannonball Church". The figurine will feature a bobblehead of General Morgan in addition to a bobble cannonball being fired by the cannon. With the giveaway slated for August 2nd, it will come just over a month before the 150th anniversary of that historic day.

The final giveaway, on August 25th, will be the coveted fleece stadium blanket giveaway, also sponsored by Laughlin Memorial Hospital. As with all the giveaway items, there is a limited quantity, so fans are encouraged to arrive at Pioneer Park early on these special nights to ensure their chances of receiving one of these free giveaways.

The Astros will also be hosting several promotional and theme nights throughout the 2014 season to provide a variety of entertainment for all fans. Right after Opening Day, the promotional and theme nights begin with Merchant Night on June 20th which allows local businesses to set up free informational booths on the Pioneer Park concourse to educate Astros fans on everything they have to offer. The next day, West Greene High School Night will celebrate the local high school and the Buffaloes athletic teams. Finally, rounding out June, YMCA Night on June 24th will allow all of their members to receive a discounted ticket by showing their membership ID.

Starting off the July schedule will be Wellness Night by Laughlin Memorial Hospital on July 4th where fans will receive Independence Day designed T-shirts. On Parrot Head Night on July 11th, fans will need to make plans to arrive early for a beach party at the ballpark and pregame Jimmy Buffett-style music from The Caribbean Cowboys Band beginning at 5:30pm. Then, on July 19th, History Night will feature some fascinating area museums and historic groups set up on the concourse of Pioneer Park. In addition, as part of the night, the Tennessee Association of Vintage Baseball will promote living history by bringing the 19th century to life through baseball events that use the rules, equipment, costumes and culture of the 1860s.

Later in the month, there will be a toy drive benefiting Gifts for Kids for Christmas in July by GreenevilleSun.com and GreenevilleMarketplace.com on July 25th. Pregame music will be provided by Griff's Room Band. Then, Bark in the Park presented by Rocky Top Veterinary Hospital will finish the month on July 31st. On this day, Pioneer Park will literally go the dogs as it is the one day a year man's best friend is invited to the ballpark to enjoy treats, play contests, win great prizes and watch some baseball.

On August 1st, the Astros will begin their final month of the season with another Merchant Night as well as having Kidney Awareness Night by Fresenius Medical Care. The very next day, it will be Super Heroes Night presented by Laughlin Memorial Hospital and all the local firemen, policemen, EMT, doctors and nurses will be honored. Another pregame concert by The Caribbean Cowboys Band will precede the game. On August 4th, the recognition continues with Military Appreciation Night including discounted tickets for veterans and their families. The next homestand, beginning on August 10th, will feature the always popular Faith Night, Racing Night, and Middle Child Night.

Over the final two weeks of the season, special recognition continues with Teacher Appreciation Night by Tennessee Lottery on August 17th. One week later and one week before the Volunteers kick off football season; the Astros will hold UT Night. Then, the Astros will help celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Wizard of Oz at the penultimate home game on August 25th. Finally, the season will conclude on August 26th with Fan Appreciation Night.

In addition to special theme nights, the Astros will also be offering daily promotions that aim to provide fans with many different opportunities for fun and savings at the ballpark. Every Sunday will be a Hawaiian Shirt Sunday. In a weekly tradition that began last season, the team wore Hawaiian shirts to the game every Sunday. This year, with nine Sunday home games, the team has taken the tradition to the next level and will be wearing actual Hawaiian shirt jerseys for each of these games. Fans will be encouraged to show their support by wearing their own Hawaiian shirts. Then, at the end of the season, these unique jerseys will be available for purchase through a silent auction.

On Monday nights, it will be all about the kids at Pioneer Park. Members of the all-new Gizmo's Cosmic Kids Club can attend on these nights at no charge as part of their membership and also eat free. All kids will be given the opportunity to run the bases with the team mascot, Gizmo, immediately following the ballgame. Kids club registration is available now.

Adults can also get in on the Monday night fun with Monday Mug Night, which offers adults over the age of 21 a discounted beverage refill after their purchase of the Greeneville Astros' beverage mug at the Tiki Hut.

Tuesdays will be known as Two-fer Tuesdays this season. Every Tuesday home game will give fans the chance to purchase Buy One, Get One Free tickets. Once fans are through the gates, the discounts continue with several items discounted to two dollars throughout Pioneer Park. Some of these discounted items include programs, hot dogs and entrance into the Kids Zone.

There is only one Wednesday home game this year, but the Astros will once again be partnering with Ed Randall's Bat for the Cure to strike out prostate cancer on that night.

Thursdays will again feature $1 Dog Night with hot dogs available for one dollar and discounted drinks for Thirsty Thursday at both the concessions stands as well as the Tiki Hut.

In addition to the giveaways, theme nights and daily promotions the Astros will also be providing beautiful fireworks shows on seven different occasions. The fireworks begin on Opening Day, June 19th, to ring in the start of the 2014 season. Then, the first of five Friday Night Fireworks shows will take place the following night. Next, the annual Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration, the largest fireworks show in East Tennessee, will occur on Independence Day and be presented by LandAir and Marsh Propane. The other Friday Night Fireworks shows will be July 11th, July 25th, and August 1st. Finally, the season finale fireworks show presented by LandAir will close out the home schedule on August 26th.

Annual non-game events, in which the Astros team up with the Boys & Girls Club of Greeneville and Greene County, are also scheduled during the upcoming season. On July 12th, the Astros' players and coaches will offer their free Kids Baseball Skillz & Drillz Clinic to children 14 and under. Participants will get a T-shirt, lunch and a ticket to the Astros game that night.

On July 19th, the club will host their annual Astros 5K race presented by Atmos Energy in which all proceeds go to benefit the local Boys & Girls Club. The race begins in front of Pioneer Park, winds through Tusculum, and concludes with a lap around the warning track inside the ballpark.

More promotional nights may be added throughout the season and fans can always get the latest promotional schedule, details and updates on the Greeneville Astros promotions page. Times, dates and events are always subject to change.

Season ticket memberships, half-season ticket memberships and firework mini-plans are on sale at the Astros administrative office now, located at Pioneer Park on the campus of Tusculum College. Single game tickets will be available for purchase online only at www.greenevilleastros.com/tickets beginning Monday at 10:00am, but will be available for purchase at the Pioneer Park ticket office at a later date.
