Sox rally to defeat Astros, 4-3

August 3, 2013

Bristol, VA - On Saturday night at Boyce Cox Field, the Greeneville Astros (27-15) held a 3-0 lead in the middle of the sixth inning before the Bristol Sox (13-30) rallied with consecutive two-run innings to win the game, 4-3. Despite the loss, the Astros still maintain a two-game lead over the Kingsport Mets (25-17) in the Appalachian League West Division.

The game began with three scoreless innings before the Astros picked up a run in each of the next three. In the fourth inning, Juan Santana hit a line drive RBI double to center field for the Astros' initial score. Then, Marc Wik connected on a RBI single in the fifth inning. Finally, Chase McDonald led off the sixth inning with a solo homer to push the Astros' lead to 3-0.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Bristol's bats came alive. Following a leadoff single by Toby Thomas, Mark Haddow hit a RBI double for their first score. Then, Haddow was knocked in by Patrick Palmeiro to pull the Sox within one run of the Astros.

The Sox were still trailing, 3-2, going into the seventh inning, but Bristol's Jake Brown hit a RBI double to even the game with one out. Then, following a ground out that moved Brown over the third base, Mark Haddow singled on a line drive to center field to score the go-ahead run in Bristol's eventual 4-3 win.

Tyler Danish, the second round selection of the Chicago White Sox in the June 2013 Draft, picked up his first career win after pitching two scoreless and hitless innings in relief. Jon Bengard followed suit in the ninth inning, picked up two strikeouts and earned his first save.

The Astros return home to face the Kingsport Mets in a single game at Pioneer Park on Sunday at 6:00pm before a league-wide off day on Monday. For more information on the Greeneville Astros, please visit www.greenevilleastros.com or call (423) 638-0411.
