Almonte Hits For Cycle in Generals 13-1 Win

Abe Almonte becomes first Jackson player to hit for cycle

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. (April 27, 2013) - Abraham Almonte finished off a four-hit night with a double in the top of the ninth Saturday making him the first player in Jackson franchise history to hit for the cycle. The Generals (10-13) notched a season-high in runs and hits during the 13-1 thrashing of the Lookouts.

 

The win came following Jackson's 5-4 loss to the Lookouts in game two of the series that was completed prior to game three. The Generals lead the series, 2-1.

 

Brad Miller (2x5, HR, 2 RBI) opened the scoring with a two out solo homer to right in the first inning. The homer was Miller's team-leading fourth of the year. Almonte (4x5, HR, 4 RBI) broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the third with a solo shot of his own, giving Jackson a lead they never gave up. It was Almonte's third home run of the season.

The Generals added their first of two five-run innings in the fourth inning. Vinnie Catricala (1x4, 2 RBI) walked with the bases loaded making it 3-1. Almonte followed with a bases loaded triple giving Jackson a 6-1 edge. Leon Landry (2x4, RBI) singled home Jackson seventh capping off the five-run inning.

James Jones (2x5, RBI) helped put a run across in the fifth inning with an RBI single that scored Steven Proscia.

Jackson added their second five-run inning in the sixth. John Hicks (1x6, RBI) Miller, Catricala and Jack Marder (1x4, 2 RBI) added RBI's in the sixth frame giving Jackson a 13-1 lead that was the final.

Seven of the Generals' season-high 17 hits were extra-base hits and each starter had at least one hit on Saturday during game three.

Generals starter Roenis Elias (W 1-2 - 6.0,4,1,1,3,6) picked up his first Double-A win, allowing a single run in six innings pitched. Moises Hernandez (2.0,1,0,0,0,2) added two scoreless inning of relief and Kyle Hunter (1.0,1,0,0,0,2) pitched a scoreless ninth.

The Generals and Lookouts play game four of the five-game set Sunday night after the conclusion of game two at AT&T Field.. RHP Chance Ruffin will make his fifth Jackson start. The game can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, jacksongeneralsbaseball.com and the TuneIn Radio app.
