Blash caps off eight-run fourth with two homers as Jackson wins fifth straight

Jabari Blash has 25 home runs on the season
August 30, 2013

HUNTSVILLE, ALA. (August 30, 2013) - Behind a season-high eight runs in the fourth inning, the Generals (32-32) smashed their way to the fifth straight win with a 8-2 win over the Huntsville Stars (27-40). With the win, Jackson recorded their first five-game winning streak of the season. Jabari Blash had two home runs and tied a Generals' season-high with five RBIs in the game, all of them coming in the eight-run fourth inning.

James Gillheeney (W, 7-7, 3.85) had a tough beginning to his 36th start as a Jackson General. Gillheeney gave up a leadoff walk and an RBI double in the two-run second for the Stars. The beginning did not phase the left-hander though, who has pitched better on the road all year long. Gillheeney retired 13 in a row ranging from the second to the sixth innings. Gillheeney surrendered three earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts and a walk in 6.1 innings.

The offense came through yet again, reaching base in every inning through the first seven frames and outhitting the opponent yet again. They could not come through on their chances in the first three innings, but busted the game wide open in the fourth. Blash (2-4, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 2 R) led off the inning with a no-doubt solo home run. Denny Almonte (1-3, 2B, RBI, R), Jack Marder (3-4, 2B, R) and Leon Landry (1-4, RBI, R) all had hits in the inning, leading to a season-high eight runs. The previous high was seven in one inning, which was against the Stars back on May 10th.

Seven of the nine Jackson starters had hits. Marder notched his 12th multi-hit game of the year and first three hit game all season. Blash's multi-home run game was the fourth time the Generals have done so.

The middle game of the series will kick off at 6:43 p.m. (CT). The left-hander Anthony Fernandez (9-7, 4.26) will pitch against Taylor Jungmann (9-10, 4.38). The game can be heard on the TuneIn Radio App. and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
