Championship Series Starts in Jackson
Jackson, Tenn. - With a successful Division Series win behind them, the Generals are set to start the 2016 Southern League Championship Series Monday night versus the Mississippi Braves. Games one and two in the best-of-five series are both at The Ballpark at Jackson Monday and Tuesday starting at 6:05 pm CT, and fans can purchase tickets online now! The team is off Sunday after a convincing victory in Montgomery Saturday night. Game one of the series is Monday at 6:05 pm CT at The Ballpark at Jackson. Game two of the series is slated to start at the same time Tuesday evening before the scene shifts to Mississippi for the remaining games.
It is the last chance to see Southern League MVP Tyler O'Neill and the rest of the Generals in action this season. O'Neill led the way for Jackson in the Division Series, going 7-for-15 with three home runs and six RBI. O'Neill homered in all three of the team's wins, including his three-run walk-off in the opener Wednesday.
This has been a historic year for the Generals, who are in the Championship Series for the fifth time in franchise history and the first time since 2012. The team is three wins away from its second-ever league championship, with the first coming in 2000 as the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx.
Jackson became the third Southern League team ever to sweep the three major postseason awards, as O'Neill was the MVP, Ryan Yarbrough was the Pitcher of the Year and Daren Brown was named Manager of the year. The 84 victories tied a franchise record, while the team's 46 wins in the first half set a new high-water mark.
Mississippi was one of the few teams the Generals had some trouble with in the regular season. The Braves took nine of 15 games from Jackson over the course of the regular season. The Generals did clinch their First Half title at Trustmark Park with a 3-2 win in 13 innings June 11.
