Jackson, Tenn. - After a rain delay of more than two hours Friday night, the Jackson Generals fell 7-2 to the Tennessee Smokies at The Ballpark at Jackson. The first four innings went quickly before the visitors scored seven times over the fifth and sixth frames. The Generals lost four of five in a series for the first time all season.
Jackson (20-14) has now lost five of six overall and is 1.5 games back of the Tennessee in the North Division. The Generals had at least a share of first place until this series against the Smokies. The two Volunteer State rivals play a total of 26 times this year.

The Generals got a solid start from Brooks Hall (1-3, 5.06), who faced just one batter more than the minimum in the first four innings. Things got away in the fifth inning after Hall retired Jason Vosler. A pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases for opposing pitcher Zach Hedges. Hedges helped his own cause with a two-run knock up the middle. Ian Rice added a run with a single to make it 3-0.
Colin Walsh drove in Jackson's first run with a sacrifice fly in the home-half of the fifth, but Tennessee (22-13) scored four times in the sixth to put the game away. A combination of two hits, three walks, an error and a wild pitch put the Smokies on top 7-1. Only two of the four runs scored versus Miller Díaz were earned.
Behind Diaz, Jackson got great efforts from Jared Miller and Yuhei Nakaushiro. The two combined to strike out five over the final 3.1 innings, but the damage had already been done.
Kelly Dugan added a solo home run in the seventh, tying him for the team lead in long balls. But two runs was it for the offense. The team has scored four runs or fewer in each of its last six games, five of which have been losses.
The Generals stay at home, but face a new opponent Saturday as the ten-game homestand continues in West Tennessee. Jackson sends Brad Keller (2-1, 3.38) to the mound in the opener versus Pensacola Saturday. The Generals face righty Tyler Mahle (5-0, 1.44), who pitched a perfect game earlier this season. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 pm CT, and fans can catch all the action on Willie 94 FM and 1390 FM in Jackson and on the TuneIn Radio App starting with the Pregame Show at 5:50 pm CT.
Sarge's Carnival continues on Saturday night! Carnival Rides in the Fun Zone to celebrate the big dog's birthday will be open starting at 4:30 pm, and are free to all children with a ticket! The first 1,000 fans to Saturday's game will take home a baseball autographed by current Generals! Everyone will be treated to a fantastic postgame Fireworks Show thanks to MobileNation!
The series continues with a Mother's Day Matinee Sunday at 2:05 pm CT! After games Monday and Tuesday night, the homestand wraps up with an Education Day Wednesday! Students who come with their class get free admission, and lunch packs will be available for just $6!
