May 7, 2014

HUNTSVILLE, ALA. (MAY 7, 2014) - The Generals (15-18) ended their five-game losing streak and broke out of their offensive funk with a 7-2 win over the Huntsville Stars (21-12) in Huntsville on Wednesday. The Generals pounded out 12 hits and each in the lineup collected at least one including three from Leon Landry and two from Patrick Brady.

Once again the Stars began the scoring as Jason Rogers doubled in the second to score Shawn Zarraga, then Rogers advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored as Kentrail Davis reached on an error by Mickey Wiswall. A third run was cut down at the plate on a nice play by Ketel Marte to keep the score at 2-0 after two innings.

The Generals finally got the offense going in the fifth. With the bases loaded and one out, Jamal Austin singled to score Leon Landry. The run broke Jackson's 26 consecutive scoreless innings streak. It also broke the Stars pitching staff's club record of 34 consecutive scoreless innings. Then Marte walked to score Mike Dowd to tie the game at 2-2.

Huntsville then replaced starting pitcher Taylor Jungmann with reliever Casey Medlen. Dan Paolini greeted the new pitcher with a sac fly, scoring Patrick Brady to give the Generals their first lead since Saturday against Pensacola.

In the eighth inning Jackson added to their lead when Mickey Wiswall hit a line drive just inside the first base bag. Wiswall was called out trying to stretch the hit into a double but Paolini scored to make it 4-2. The next batter John Hicks got a base hit just over the third baseman's head that scored Ramon Morla to make it 5-2 Generals.

Patrick Brady then got his second base hit of the night scoring Hicks and Landry to make the score 7-2 after eight.

Jackson got a solid start from Trevor Miller (1-4) who went six innings and gave up just two runs on six hits. Moises Hernandez and Mayckol Guaipe put together three innings in relief to finish off the Stars. Brady and Landry both had multi hit performances, Landry with three base hits on the evening, his first three-hit game since June 15, 2013 at Birmingham.

The two teams will play the fourth game of this five game set Thursday at 6:30 pm at Joe W. Davis Municipal Stadium. Reigning Southern League Pitcher of the Week Cam Hobson (3-1, 2.52) will make the start for Jackson as Brent Suter (4-1, 1.46) will be on the bump for Huntsville.
