Generals Split Doubleheader, Take Series

Jackson splits pair of one-run games on Monday night

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. (April 29, 2013) - The Generals (11-14) split a pair of one-run games on Monday night in Chattanooga, dropping game one in 11 innings, 3-2 and winning the second contest, 5-4. The Generals take the series three games to two over Chattanooga. Jackson has now played 15 one-run games this season and is 5-10 in those games. The doubleheader game times totaled 6 hours and 14 minutes as the final out was made at 12:15 a.m. eastern time. 

Game 1: CHA 3, JXN 2 (11)

The Lookouts walked off with a 3-2 win in 11 innings as Yasiel Puig delivered an RBI single off of Jackson reliever Forrest Snow.

Chattanooga started the scoring in the bottom of the first as Blake Smith plated Joc Pederson with a single.

Jackson trailed 1-0 until the top of the fourth inning when Julio Morban (1x3, RBI) blasted a double off the left-field wall scoring Brad Miller (1x4, R), tying the game.

The Generals took a brief lead in the top of the fifth taking advantage of an Omar Luna error at second base that allowed Leon Landry (1x4, R) to score.

In the bottom of the fifth Yasiel Puig blasted a solo homer that tied the game at 2-2.

Jackson starter Chance Ruffin (5.0,6,2,2,3,6) took a no decision and relievers Jonathan Arias (2.2,2,0,0,03) and Nick Hill (2.0,0,0,0,2,1) tossed scoreless relief behind Ruffin.

Yasiel Puig drove home Joc Pederson in the bottom of the 11th with one out against Forrest Snow (0.2,2,1,1,0,1), who suffered the loss. Chattanooga reliever Luis Vasquez (1-0) picked up the win.

Game 2: JXN 5, CHA 4

Jackson jumped out to a 3-0 lead with two coming across in the third with two outs. Steven Proscia (2x4, R, RBI) delivered an RBI double scoring Brad Miller (0x2, R) and James Jones (3x4, 2 RBI) brought in Proscia with a single to center. In the fourth Abe Almonte (2x2, 2 RBI, R) ripped a double to the left field line scoring Brandon Bantz (0x2, R) from second.

Chattanooga began their comeback with a three-run rally with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. Omar Luna delivered a two-RBI double and Jan Vasquez brought in another with a single.

The Lookouts went ahead in the bottom of the fifth inning on a solo home run from Joc Pederson.

Jackson though mounted a comeback of their own tying the game on an RBI single from Jones in the sixth and RBI single from Almonte in the seventh.

Stephen Kohlscheen (3.0,3,1,1,1,3) pitched well in relief and earned the win, while Kyle Hunter (0.1,0,0,0,0,1), in his second Double-A appearance faced one batter and struck out Joc Pederson to end the game and earn the save.

Starter Anthony Fernandez (3.2,3,3,3,3,2) made his first start of the season since coming off the DL and did not factor in the decision. Chattanooga reliever Kyle Cofield (0-2) suffered the loss.

The Generals will enjoy a day off on Tuesday before opening up a five-game series at The Ballpark in Jackson on Wednesday night against Jacksonville, at 7:05 p.m. RHP Taijuan Walker (2-2, 1.55) starts for Jackson against RHP Sam Dyson (0-1, 1.86) for Jacksonville.
