Generals Take Series After 7-1 Win on Monday

Jackson hasn't lost a series at home to Birmingham since 2007
May 20, 2013

JACKSON, TENN - (May 20, 2013) The Generals (19-24) smashed out five runs on
four hits in the fourth inning to take the series over the Barons' (28-17),
7-1. With the series win, the Generals have not dropped a series to the
Barons' at home dating back to 2007.

Birmingham established an early lead in the first. Costly walks from
Generals' starter Brett Shankin gave the Barons' base runners and an early
advantage off the bat of Andy Wilkins.

After one pass through the Generals' lineup, Barons' starter Scott Snodgress
retired the minimum. In the fourth frame, Leon Landry (1-4, R) led off with
a bunt single. He advanced to second on a throwing error from Snodgress.
Landry scored after an attempted steal to third is overthrown plating
Landry. Gabriel Noriega (1-2, R, 2 BB) was given a free pass and moved to
second on a sacrifice bunt from Brad Miller (0-3, SAC). Vinnie Catricala
(1-2, 2 R) reached first via walk and scored off the bat of Julio Morban
(2-4, 2 RBI, 2 R, 3B). Morban tripled and scored on an infield single from
James Jones (0-3, R). Jones scored after Leury Bonilla (3-4, 3 RBI, 2B)
doubled to left center. After four, the Generals led 5-1.

The Generals added some insurance in the sixth. After back-to-back singles
from Catricala and Morban, Jones sacrificed both runners into scoring
position. Bonilla brought the two in with a bloop single to right. The
Generals led 7-1 after six.

Brett Shankin (W, 3-1, 5.0,2,1,1,5,2,0) gathered the win on the mound in his
seventh start of the season. In the win, Shankin tied his season high of
walks (5), but gave up a season-low one run and two hits. Moises Hernandez
(3.0,0,0,0,0,4) added his best performance of the season out of the pen by
retiring nine straight Barons hitters. The Barons' starter Scott Snodgress
suffered the loss. In the loss, he gave up a season high seven runs and
season low one strikeout.

The Generals have two days off before traveling to Montgomery for the second
five-game series this year. In the first series, the Generals won the set
3-2. First on the hill for Jackson will be LHP Anthony Fernandez (1-0,
8.84). Montgomery will start RHP Jake Thompson (2-5, 7.09) in game one. The
