August 29, 2013

JACKSON, Tenn. (August 29, 2013) - Jackson (32-33) won their fourth straight game against the Huntsville Stars (27-39) Thursday and extended their overall winning streak to four games in the series opener with a 5-3 win. The first five innings saw both teams exchange the lead a combination of five times. The Generals had four extra-base hits in total that supported them in outhitting the opponent for the sixth time in the last seven games.

Left-hander Anthony Vasquez (W, 2-4, 4.30) closed his season on a strong note. After having his first pitch of his outing blasted for a solo home run, Vasquez finished by retiring the last eight batters he faced. The starting pitcher navigated through seven innings, giving up two earned runs on seven hits, featuring one walk and one strikeout. Two of the seven hits were long balls, but the offense backed the southpaw.

Jackson had eight hits on the night, two by Chris Taylor (2-4, 2B, BB), a pair from Ramon Morla (2-3, HR, R, RBI) and the same from Leon Landry (2-3, 2B, R, RBI). Morla got the Generals on the board with a solo home run in the second. They grabbed single runs in the fourth and sixth to compliment a two-run fifth that included James Jones (0-5, 2 SB, R) stealing second and third in the same at-bat. Jones was hit in thanks to a Jabari Blash (0-3, R, BB, RBI) groundout.

Friday's game will get underway at 6:43 p.m. (CT) on Friday. The Generals will pitch James Gillheeney (6-7, 4.07) and the Stars are slated to counter with Andy Moye (6-14, 4.00). The game can be heard on the TuneIn Radio App. and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
