Jackson Snaps Skid With 7-3 Win Over Wahoos

JACKSON, Tenn. (April 21, 2013) - The Jackson Generals (7-10) ended a five game skid with a 7-3 win against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (7-9) Sunday at The Ballpark in Jackson. The win evened the series at one-game apiece.

In the bottom of the first inning, the Generals bats came out hot with a lead-off Leon Landry (1-4, R) single. Then, Landry scored from first on a RBI double by Francisco Martinez (2-4, 2R, RBI). One pitch later, Brad Miller (3-4, R, 2RBI) singled to center which brought Martinez home to give the Generals a 2-0 lead to start the game. The hit parade continued when the Generals tallied another run on a RBI base hit off the bat of Steven Proscia (1-4, RBI). Moments later, Generals third basemen Vinnie Catricala (1-3, RBI) brought Hicks in from third on a sacrifice fly to center making the Generals lead 4-0 in the bottom of the first.

Pensacola cut the lead in half in the top of third frame. Donald Lutz smacked a two-run homer to right field. Theo Bowe scored on the hit. Halfway through three, Generals led 4-2.

After Catricala singled to center in the bottom of the fourth, Abraham Almonte (1-3, 2RBI, R) insured the Generals lead by lifting an opposite field two-run homer to left field that gave Jackson a 6-2 lead.

With no outs and the bases loaded in the top of the fifth, the Generals exchanged two outs for one run, and a foul fly out to escape the fifth with little damage. Half way through five, the Generals led 6-3.

Once again, the Generals tacked on another run in the bottom of seventh off the bat of Miller. Martinez scored from third giving the Generals a 7-3 lead.

In his home debut, RHP Brett Shankin (W,5.0,5,3,3,5,4,1) got the win on the mound. While Steven Kohlscheen (S,3.0,0,0,0,0,4) got the three inning save. Pensacola's RHP Daniel Renken recorded the loss.

Monday night, catch the Generals and Pensacola at The Ballpark in Jackson with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. RHP Chance Ruffin (1-0, 4.24) will take the mound for the Generals against RHP Josh Smith (1-2, 2.97) for Pensacola.
