Jackson, Tenn. - For the first time all season, the Generals find themselves out of the top spot in the Southern League's North Division after an 8-0 loss to the Tennessee Smokies Tuesday night. It was the second time the Generals have been held scoreless in the last three days after getting shut out just once in the first 28 games of the season.
The loss dropped Jackson (19-12) to a half-game behind Tennessee (20-12) in the North Division. The Generals have lost three consecutive games for the first time all season.

The Smokies wasted no time jumping on Alex Young (2-1, 3.34), scoring in the opening inning for the second night in a row. After a single and a walk put two men on, David Bote drove a double to right-center field that put the visitors on top 2-0. Tennessee added another in the second on a Jeffrey Baez blast to left field.
Tennessee added three more on one swing from Charcer Burks in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded and two men out, Burks banged a double off the fence in center to clear the bases and make it 6-0. Over five innings, Young allowed six runs on seven hits.
Jackson scuffled on offense against Tennessee's Trevor Clifton (3-1, 2.25). The Maryville native struck out seven over six scoreless innings, allowing just four hits to pick up the win.
On the night, the Generals were kept to five hits. The Generals put two in scoring position in the sixth and got men to the corners in the eighth, but failed to score both times. Over the team's three-game skid, Jackson has been held to two runs on 14 hits in 27 innings. All of the team's runs since Friday in Mobile have come via the home run.
Gabe Speier pitched well in relief, giving the Generals three scoreless innings behind Young. Tennessee would add two to their tally in the ninth on Yasiel Balaguert's first Double-A home run. The eight-run margin is the largest for Jackson in a loss this season.
The Generals can turn things around Wednesday morning in the middle game of the series. Taylor Clarke (3-1, 2.25) goes for his fourth win of the year against Tennessee Righty Preston Morrison (0-2, 4.26).
