Offensive outburst helps Sanchez get first Double-A win

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. (MAY 23, 2014) -. Leon Landry (4x4, 2 R) collected his second four-hit game of the week and John Hicks (2x5, R, 3 RBI, HR) had two hits including his second home run in as many days to lead the Generals (19-28) to an 8-6 win at Jacksonville (23-24) on Friday night. Starter Victor Sanchez (1-1) worked five innings and earned his first Double-A win. The win gives Jackson its first win on the road trip and they trail the series to the Suns, 2-1.

Ketel Marte (1x2, R) led off the game with a double and Marte then scored as Landry advanced him to third with a sacrifice bunt, Suns pitcher Jay Rogers tossed the ball away and Marte scored.

Dan Paolini (1x5, R, RBI) tripled in the next at-bat to score Landry and it was quickly 2-0 Generals. Patrick Kivlehan (1x3, R, RBI, BB) added a sacrifice fly and the score was 3-0 Jackson after a half inning.

The Suns got those runs back in the bottom of the second with two home runs. Joe Benson hit a solo shot and two batters later Danny Black added a two run homer and the score was tied 3-3 after two.

Jackson added two more runs on back-to-back-to-back doubles in the third. Dario Pizzano (2x4, 2 R, RBI, BB) notched his first Double-A two-hit game with a double that scored Kivlehan. John Hicks's (2x5, R, 3 RBI) double scored Pizzano, which was his sixth double of the year, and extended his on-base streak to 21 games, and extended his hitting streak to a Generals season best 11 games.

Joe Benson scored from second on Brent Keys's single to cut the lead to 5-4 in the fourth. But Hicks hit his second home run in as many days, a two-run dinger, which extended the Generals lead to 7-4 in the fifth inning.

With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Benson tripled for the Suns. He was brought home on Isaac Galloway's single to cut the Generals lead to 7-5 heading to the ninth. But the Generals got their three-run lead back in the top of the ninth when Landry scored on a wild pitch to make the score 8-5.

The Suns got one more run on a J.T. Realmuto double that scored Brent Keys, but they got no closer as the Generals held on for the 8-6 victory.

Victor Sanchez (1-1, 5.56) picked up his first Double-A victory as he went five innings and gave up four runs on seven hits. Richard Vargas (0-0, 2 SV, 4.76) held on for his second save of the year. Jared Rogers (0-1, 12.60) dropped to 0-1 on the season with the loss. Pizzano and Kevin Rivers (2x4) also added two hits each for the Generals offense.

The Generals play the Suns in game four of this five-game set Saturday in Jacksonville. Trevor Miller (3-4, 3.64) will start for the Generals while the Suns will have LHP Justin Niccolino (2-2, 3.88) get the start.
