Mobile, Ala. - Two hits was all the Generals needed as Jackson eked out a 3-2 victory over the Mobile BayBears Saturday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. Colin Walsh drove in all three Jackson runs, giving the Generals their third one-run victory and their second in a row.
Jackson (7-2) trailed by a run after Mobile rallied with two outs in the first. With two outs, Luis Tejada walked and moved to third on a single by Zach Houchins. Forrest Allday put the BayBears on the board with a single to center to make it 1-0.
That was all Mobile (3-6) managed against Brad Keller (1-0, 0.90), who picked up his second win in as many Double-A starts. He struck out six over five innings, finishing with four-straight strikeouts.
The Generals jumped in front in the third inning on one swing by Colin Walsh. Rudy Flores led off the inning by drawing a walk. Two batters later, Walsh sent a Jordan Kipper offering over the fence in left field to give Jackson a 2-1 edge.
Flores doubled to lead off the fifth inning, giving the Generals their second and final hit of the game. He moved to third on a Kelly Dugan groundout before Walsh drove him home with a sacrifice fly that put the Generals on top 3-1. Kipper (0-1, 4.09) took the loss for Mobile, giving up three runs on two hits in six innings.
Mobile got one run back in the sixth on a walk and three singles, but Grant Sides retired Hutton Moyer with the bases loaded to keep the Generals in front. Sides pitched a perfect seventh, and Miller Diaz added a scoreless inning for a second-straight night.
In the ninth, Yuhei Nakaushiro retired the first man he faced before consecutive batters reached on Jackson errors. Nakaushiro (S, 1) was unfazed, striking out Caleb Adams and Andrew Daniel with sliders to pick up his first save of the season.
The Generals won for a second-straight night by a run despite just six combined hits. All six hits in the team's past two games have gone for extra bases. Five of the team's first nine contests have been decided by a single run. The win on Saturday guaranteed the Generals a series victory.
