Chad Spanberger and Casey Golden hiti back-to-back homers in the first inning as the Grand Junction beat the Helena Brewers 12-6 Saturday night at Suplizio Field.
The home runs came after Tristen Lutz gave the Brewers a 2-0 lead with a first inning 2-run homer. Spanberger's seventh home run of the season tied the game while Golden's gave the Rockies a 3-2 lead. It's the third time this season the Rockies have gone back-to-back, the first time at home.
Pedro Gonzalez extended the Rockies lead with a 2-out, 2-run triple in the second, but Jay Feliciano tied the game with a third inning 3-run homer, his second of the series, though the game didn't stay tied for long.
Golden started the bottom of the third inning with a walk and eventually scored on a wild pitch, but the Rockies added two more in the inning thanks to a Kenard McDowell RBI double and then he and Shael Mendoza pulled off a double steal of home and second to make it 8-5.
Helena scored one run in the fourth but didn't score again and the Rockies added a pair in their half of the fourth and the eighth.
The win improves the Rockies to 2-3 in the second half, 20-23 overall as they got two hit nights from Mendoza, Gonzalez, Spanberger, Ramon Marcelino, Javier Guevara and McDowell. Gonzalez and Spanberger drove in three runs.
In his eighth start of the season, Anderson Amarista allowed six run in 3.2 innings, but the Rockies bullpen quartet of Brandon Lambright, Hayden Roberts, Alexander Martinez, and Jefry Valdez kept the Brewers off the board the rest of the night, with Roberts earning the first win of his career. Rockies pitching matched a season- high with 14 strikeouts.
