Jeffri Ocando improved to 5-0 on the season as the Grand Junction Rockies beat the Helena Brewers 6-2 Sunday at Suplizio Field.

Ocando tossed six innings allowing just two runs on four hits. He struck out two without walking anyone becoming the second Pioneer League pitcher to get five wins. He joins Helena's Nelson Hernandez in the five-win club but the Rockies handed Hernandez his first loss.

The Rockies scored a run against him in the first inning but couldn't do anything else against him until the sixth. In between, the Brewers tallied runs in the second and third innings to take the lead, though in the sixth, the Rockies bats woke up.

Tyler Bates doubled off the wall to begin the inning and after Shael Mendoza bunted him to third, Pedro Gonzalez through a drawn-in infield to tie the game, and Gonzalez was able to stretch the hit to a double. He stole third and scored on Casey Golden's infield single to give the Rockies the lead again.

With Ocando out of the game, Derrik Watson tossed a 1-2-3 seventh inning while HUnter Williams worked around a hit batter and a single in the eighth. Chad Spanberger stretched the Rockies lead with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the inning and the Rockies scored twice more before Jefry Valdez tossed a scoreless ninth to finish the game.

Mendonza, Gonzalez, Spanberger and Kennard McDowell had two-hit games for the Rockies, who have won three straight games, improving to 3-3 in the second half and 21-23 overall. Spanberger drove in two runs as he homered for the second straight game.
